We joined our friends in Okinawa, so they showed us around their new home. Okinawa is also the home of the Ryukyu people, and it changed significantly after World War II. Some places we visited were significantly altered after the war, while some were beautifully preserved. We also visited their favorite coffee shops, restaurants, and other spots we definitely wouldn’t have found on our own. Okinawa felt a mix of Hawaii and Japan to us—in the best ways.
