DrAlienSmith Alien8 vs D112 vs E602 Kick Microphone Shootout

All the mics/tracks in this mix are raw, no eq or compression. To preserve transients there is also no stereo bus compression or limiting either. You will need to TURN IT UP and use studio quality headphones or speakers to get the full effect. The three mics were lined up inside the kick drum, equal distance between the front and back heads, and two loops were recorded. The first loop is just 5 kick hits. The second is a simple kick/snare/high hat groove.

The kick mics were all recorded through a Sebatron VMP-4000e preamp and were normalized to be at an equal volume for playback. The kick drum was a 22x14 A&F raw steel kick. In this test the DrAlienSmith Alien8 is set to 'Both Capsules On'.

Snare top - SM7b
Snare bottom - SM57
Overheads - Spaced pair of Beesneez Lulu Fets
Toms - Rack and floor 421's but gated so no spill between hits.
