Learning about famous dyslexic celebrities and historic figures, from Albert Einstein to Steve Jobs, and Jennifer Anniston, can encourage students with dyslexia to overcome the challenges they face in reading and writing, and focus on their strengths. Listen to these ideas for teaching a lesson on famous people with dyslexia at school, then read through the full list of celebrities on our blog, and give a dyslexia-focused lesson a try with your students!
In this video, Liz Loly, an experienced teacher, parent and dyslexia advocate, explains how famous dyslexic people can be a great hook to motivate students.
This video is based on the following article from the Read and Spell Blog: https://www.readandspell.com/famous-p...

5 Classroom Activities On Famous People with Dyslexia:
1) Students research a celebrity who is dyslexic and share facts about them with the class
2) Discuss personality traits of different celebrities and use this as an introduction to talk about the strengths of people with dyslexia e.g. creativity, empathy and problem-solving
3) Create a display of inspiring quotes from dyslexic people. Encourage students to use reliable online sources such as the British Dyslexia Association, Made By Dyslexia and the Helen Arkell Dyslexia Charity to find some of their favorite quotes by celebrities such as Keira Knightley, Jamie Oliver, and Orlando Bloom
4) Play a matching game in which students match celebrity names and photos to descriptions. Learning through games is fun and effective!
5) Match students with celebrities by looking at their individual traits and strengths
‘Teaching a lesson about famous people with dyslexia can be a positive way to share information about specific learning differences...and a way to motivate dyslexic learners.’ - Liz Loly
