“Kominternlied” (English: “Song of the Comintern”) is the official anthem of the Third Internationale, a political international which existed from 1919 to 1943 and advocated world communism. The song was written in 1928 by Hanns Eisler for “Red Mouthpiece” and the 10th anniversary of the Third Internationale. It was performed for the first time in Berlin in March 1929. After the end of World War II, Stefan Hermlin wrote a new song that still used Eisler’s melody but with brand new lyrics under the title “Lied der Werktätigen”. It is one of the most famous communist/socialist songs of all times.
