One of the issues I first had with plants was thinking that if I gave a plant a pot that was much larger, I would be making it happier. That was not the case.
If your pot is too large, the soil takes a longer time to dry out. Also the plant will take more energy concentrating into root growth instead of foliage growth. So when going up a pot size, consider a pot 1-2 inches bigger than your root ball.
