The annual tradition of ringing the bells as the calendar turns over into the new year continues at St Cuthbert's church, Benfieldside in north-west County Durham. Shown here is a split screen of the ringers and the bells themselves, so that you can see how they pair up.

A bit about the bells:
These are a complete ring of 6 bells cast in 1885 by John Taylor & Co of Loughborough, which replaced a lighter ring of 5 cast by the same founder only 16 years prior, due to one of the bells cracking. The present tenor weighs 12.5 cwt and 17 lbs and is tuned to the key of G, albeit on the sharper end of the note owing to the pre-harmonic tuning that Taylor's executed at the time.
The bells are hung in a two-tier, cast iron frame, with bells 1, 2 and 3 hung side-by-side with bell no. 4 perpendicular on the top level, and then the two tenors hung side-by-side on the bottom. This frame was installed in 1957 when the bells were rehung and they have remained much the same to the present day.
