Описание: The 13 July Uprising of 1941 in Montenegro was a significant anti-Axis rebellion during World War II. This uprising marked the first large-scale revolt against Axis forces in Europe, occurring in the Italian-occupied territory of Montenegro. The rebellion erupted on July 13, 1941, spurred by local resistance against the harsh occupation policies and inspired by the Soviet Union's fight against Nazi Germany. Organized primarily by the Communist Party of Yugoslavia, the uprising mobilized a wide spectrum of Montenegrin society, including communists, nationalists, and former royalists. The insurgents rapidly gained control over numerous towns and villages, disrupting Italian communications and capturing weaponry and supplies. Within a short time, large areas of Montenegro were temporarily liberated from Italian control. However, the Italian forces responded swiftly and brutally. By the end of July, with reinforcements from Albania and aerial support, they launched a severe counter-offensive. The repression involved mass executions, village burnings, and widespread arrests, leading to significant casualties among the rebels and civilians. Despite being quashed, the 13 July Uprising had a lasting impact. It symbolized the deep-seated resistance to fascism in Montenegro, providing a crucial morale boost and operational experience for the Yugoslav Partisans, who continued to resist Axis forces throughout the war.
