In the context of modern democracies, it is often said that elections are like festivals. The phrase may sound cliché, but it holds true. Even if the emotional excitement of a festival is missing, the scale, spectacle, and preparations are certainly there. Right now, elections are about to take place in our neighborhood — in Bangladesh. On February 12, voters in Bangladesh will head to the polls to elect representatives for 300 seats.

At first glance, this may sound like any ordinary election. But after what happened in Bangladesh in 2024, this vote could truly prove to be a make-or-break moment for the country. In this episode of Padhaku Nitin World Affairs, we focus entirely on Bangladesh. Why is this election so significant? What is the nature of the first election being held without Sheikh Hasina? Has the dissatisfaction that existed toward Sheikh Hasina disappeared after her departure? Are Bangladesh’s Gen Z voters satisfied now, and who are they looking toward?
