Verses 91–92: Yusuf forgives his brothers
When Yusuf’s brothers realize who he is, they are struck with shame and remorse, saying:
“By Allah! Allah has truly preferred you over us, and we have surely been sinners.” (12:91)
Yusuf (ʿalayhi as-salām), in an act of prophetic mercy, responds:
“No blame will there be upon you today. May Allah forgive you; He is the Most Merciful of the merciful.” (12:92)
This mirrors the mercy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ later showed his enemies after the conquest of Makkah — the Qur’an beautifully foreshadows that model of forgiveness. Yusuf doesn’t punish or humiliate; he uplifts. True leadership lies not in vengeance, but in grace.
Verses 93–96: Reunion with Ya‘qub (Jacob)
Yusuf tells his brothers:
“Take this shirt of mine and cast it over my father’s face; he will become clear-sighted again.” (12:93)
When the brothers return to Canaan and do so, Ya‘qub’s sight — which he had lost from grief — is miraculously restored. The shirt that once symbolized jealousy and separation now becomes a sign of healing and reunion.
Ya‘qub says:
“Did I not tell you that I know from Allah what you do not know?” (12:96)
This shows his unshakable faith — despite years of sorrow, he never lost trust in Allah’s plan.
Verses 97–98: The brothers repent
The brothers confess to their father:
“O our father, ask forgiveness for our sins; we were indeed sinful.”
Ya‘qub replies:
“I will ask my Lord to forgive you; He is the Most Forgiving, Most Merciful.” (12:98)
Notice the subtle wisdom: Ya‘qub delays his prayer for them — scholars say he waited for a time of special acceptance (like before dawn), teaching us the importance of both repentance and timing in du‘ā.
Verses 99–100: The grand reunion in Egypt
Finally, Ya‘qub and the whole family arrive in Egypt. Yusuf welcomes them with honor and love, saying:
“Enter Egypt, if Allah wills, in security.” (12:99)
He seats his parents on the throne and everyone bows in respect (not worship — a gesture of honor in their time). Yusuf then reflects:
“O my father, this is the fulfillment of my dream long ago. My Lord has made it true...” (12:100)
The dream he saw as a child — eleven stars, the sun, and the moon bowing to him — now comes full circle. The once-betrayed boy becomes a forgiving ruler. The once-blind father now sees both his son and the wisdom of Allah’s plan.
Key Themes and Lessons
Forgiveness triumphs over revenge. Yusuf’s mercy healed generations of family pain.
Faith in Allah’s plan is never wasted. Ya‘qub’s patience (ṣabr jamīl — “beautiful patience”) is rewarded.
Prophetic character means grace under power. When Yusuf could have punished, he forgave.
The story closes where it began — with love, unity, and divine purpose.
This section is the emotional sunrise after a long night — every tear, every test, and every turn was leading here. Allah’s plan, though mysterious, was always merciful.
