Beefeater 24's name indicates a steeping time of 24 hours, specifically in London, for the 12 botanicals used to make this gin. This spirit has a dry-style gin base with juniper, angelica root, citrus and grapefruit peel as well as Japanese and Chinese teas.

This Beefeater Gin's bottle is a true icon marked by red and white colors along with embossed flowers and other botanicals throughout the square bottle. The cap is a normal screwdown cap.

Being 45% ABV, this gin is quite strong though it does not lose its elegance nor creamy essence.

03:20 Robe & Appearance
In the glass, the Beefeater 24 Gin is clear, thick, and oily. It has a dense pearl chain as is not hazy nor can any impurities be visually detected.

The first smell of Beefeater 24 has a lovely orange marmalade note with a bit of citrus peel. The grapefruit is also quite prominent; only later do juniper notes rise up. The teas mentioned previously are difficult to detect if they are at all perceived.

There is also a slight floral touch reminiscent of chamomile, violet, and rose petal. These notes are mellow, well-rounded, and sweet. They are not overly complex nor intense.

05:35 Palate & Finish
The first taste of this Beefeater gin is smooth with slight sweetness. The citrus are much more prominent than sensed on the nose. There is also an herbaceous, or floral, nuance that rings closer to dried lavender. The juniper is also detected towards the finish which can be described as medium to long. Similar to the nose, the sensations are not overly complex nor offensive.

06:33 Beefeater 24 Gin Cocktails & Pairings
For a 45% ABV spirit, this gin goes down rather smoothly without any burn whatsoever. Its sweet and creamy characteristics also make it ideal for gin & tonic or Martini cocktails. However, a more traditional, crisp, dry martini would be better served by the traditional Beefeater, not this 24.

The fruity, citrus notes of the Beefeater 24 make it an ideal base for gin & juice cocktails. Grapefruit juice would help bring out the peppery, prickly nuances of this gin. This gin could also be paired with freshly watermelon juice.

Food pairings for Beefeater 24 could include scones (such as those you usually have with afternoon tea) and clotted cream with a strawberry or raspberry marmalade. For this review, Reinhard went with petite fois which enhanced the creaminess and slight sweetness of the Beefeater 24 gin.

For this review, Reinhard chose a classic Cuban, a limited edition Cohiba, that would bring in a bit of spice and character to counteract the mellow nature of the gin.

Seeing as how Beefeater 24 is rather affordable, it's value for money is superb. It could easily be a standard everyday gin for cocktails or long drinks. While many may shy from drinking it neat, this is Reinhard's preferred way of enjoying this gin, especially if it's accompanied by a grapefruit zest garnish.

Overall, Beefeater 24 is a versatile gin adequate for many occasion. Its simple & elegant packaging make it a memorable classic, and one that you can't go wrong with.
