We are pleased to introduce Episode 2 of Judicata: The NLIU Law Podcast, an initiative that creates informed conversations with leading voices in the legal profession.
Our first guest, Professor Dr. Satyajit Mohanty, Adjunct Professor of Law, National Law University Odisha and Honorary Professor, Faculty of Management, Sri Sri University, is recognised and renowned for his expertise in criminal law, widely recognised for his expertise in police discretion, community policing, and democratic accountability in law enforcement.
His scholarship, most notably Police Discretion in India and his role in institutionalising the “AMA Police” model reflect a rare synthesis of empirical research and on-ground reform.
Through decades of IPS service, national policy work, and academic leadership, he is known as a leading scholar-practitioner bridging policing, public policy, and human rights.
This episode explores the lived intersection of policing, public administration, academia, and the legal system, with personal insights from the career of Dr Satyajit Mohanty. It reflects on discretion, accountability, and the gap between law on paper and law in practice. Drawing on decades of service and academic inquiry, it examines community policing, public trust, predecessor-successor syndrome, and many oft-discussed but little-understood principles.
Together, the conversation sets a reflective, reform-oriented tone for understanding justice in action.
