The first thing, it's all about resilience. Actually. I picked it to say the following; it's not what happens to you that matters, but how you react to it. And I liked that very much because at the end of the day, this is what it is all about. How do you react to things better, quicker, cheaper than the others? Don't try to double guess the future. It's impossible. And then there is a piece around efficiency as well, which has very much to do about adjusting to the future, being lean, fast, speedy, agile, whatever buzz words we can think of, but that's very important as well. I mean really taking away the boundaries, simplifying things so that we can be adjusting to changes in our environment.
The #1 action companies are taking to prepare for the future is identifying the gap between current skills and future skills.
So this is where I think HR plays a very key role in helping the business to identify the capability, the needs, not just for today, but also for the future. What are you doing with existing capability today in order to renew that capability o becomes fit for purpose? So preparing the workforce for tomorrow is a very natural progression and a very logical progression from our first phase, which has been really looking at activities and looking at the work that the role's been obviously so inclined to do. Because once you understand the activity in the work that people in the different roles we plan to do, it's very easy then to have some great insights into the competencies that are required for each one. So once we understand what the competencies are and we’ve got that mapped to each role, the implications that has on learning, succession, and actual employee empowerment over their careers is incredibly exciting.

I think one of the things that's important about the future of work is that you're going to have to take work to where the people are, as opposed to bringing people to the work. So you have to be a lot more fluid in terms of leveraging technology. You have to be a lot more fluid in terms of looking for pockets of relative richness in the labor market and take the work to them.
