The story of these Galician Pipes:
This man's grandfather, in his heyday, journeyed to the countryside with the intention of buying a set of pipes from a maker who was rumoured to be quite a queer fellow and a great philosopher. He came by the old eccentric in his home and offered to pay a sum for a set of pipes to be made. The pipe maker refused, but instead asked:
"Bring me a goat. Then we will see if I can make you some pipes".
So the grandfather did as he asked and brought a goat to the artisan's doorstep.
"Good". Said the pipe maker. "Now we will get to work, but before I have finished, bring me here a bottle of wine".
So the grandfather did as he asked and brought a bottle of red wine to the artisan's doorstep. When he arrived, he found that the pipe maker had killed the goat and had made it's skin into a bag.
"Now come and we will drink to honour this goat and consecrate your new bagpipes"
Most bagpipes nowadays will cost you thousands of dollars, but you can see how with a little eccentricity and the love of a tradition, one can purchase bagpipes with nothing but a goat and a bottle of wine.
