The final game of the NWCFL leg of the GroundhopUK weekend saw a record crowd of 1184 at the Butchers Arms to witness the Bloods first league home game since Boxing Day, and the visit of Darwen FC.

Having narrowly beating the visitors 1-0 in the reverse fixture just a few weeks earlier, we knew it would be another close game against play-off chasing Darwen.

Indeed, Darwen took an early lead following a corner from their left-hand side. The ball was floated towards the back post, where Christopher Bailey rose highest, and with the help of a deflection or two, found the back of the net.

The visitors continued to pile on the pressure, with a number of corner kicks, and a free kick from Connor Hughes being tipped over the bar by Jordan Latham.

After restricting the visitors to just the single goal, the Bloods started to find their feet, and drew level on 12 minutes, after a neat 1-2 between Fuad Kasali and Ben Lowe, saw Kasali through on goal, and he riffled the ball past Darwen keeper Louis Hood.

The home side went on the search for a second goal, and were rewarded in the 27th minute when a fantastic ball over the top from Harry Shipton, saw George Kattah through 1-on-1 with the keeper. Hood managed to stop the first effort, but the rebound fell kindly to Kattah to put the ball into an empty net.

Towards the end of the half, Kasali though he had scored his second, only to see the flag go up for offside, as the sides went off for half time with the Bloods 2-1 to the good.

The second half started exactly the same as the first, as within two minutes of the restart, Darwen had levelled the game again. A ball over the top from Darwen number 10, Joshua Abbott, fell just outside the Droylsden box, and Jordan Latham was too late to clear the ball, as the Visitors' Bruno De Almeida Severino acrobatically lobbed the ball high over Latham's head, and into the back of the net for a fantastic finish.

The final, and game-winning goal came for the Bloods in the 54th minute, after an excellent drive forward by Player of the match Harry Forshaw, playing Nellson Van through, where his left footed shot was too much for Darwen's Louis Hood. Neither team could add to their scoreline, as droylsden ran out 3-2 winners, in a fantastic advert for the NWCFL First Division North.

The win sees Droylsden keep in touch of the top 2 in the league, in 3rd place, whilst Darwen stay in 6th position, just on the cusp of the play-off places.

Droylsden are back at home on the 8th March against Daisy Hill.
