Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month is celebrated in May each year in the United States. The AAPI community in the United States is incredibly diverse, with people from a wide range of countries and cultures.
But then, why do we celebrate in May? Its origin can be traced back to the late 1970s when Asian American activists and leaders coordinated with the United States government to dedicate a month to recognize the contributions and achievements of the Asian American community.
Today, the AAPI community is one of the fastest-growing racial and ethnic groups in the United States. They have made significant contributions to many fields, including science, technology, business, arts, and politics.
Here are some recommended works to watch, portraying American life in the eyes of the AAPI community.
1. “The Joy Luck Club" by Amy Tan
2. “Minari" directed by Lee Isaac Chung
3. “Fresh Off the Boat" created by Nahnatchka Khan
