RWI Speed Sounds Set3 | ow - Sound4 | How to Teach Phonic Sounds to Children (3 - 4years)

If your child is learning to read and write with Read Write Inc. Phonics, initially they will be learning Set1 Speed Sounds then moving on to Set2 Speed Sounds. While they learn, you need to do the following three things:
Practise them to read books with words made up of those sounds (Blending).
Encourage them to write words with the help of handwriting sheets provided.
Help your child with spelling by break words into individual sounds (Segmenting).

If your child has learnt all the Set1 and Set2 Speed Sounds, you could help them to learn next Set3 Speed Sounds. These are the Set3 Speed Sounds:
er (as in letter)
ai (as in snail)
oa (as in goat)
ow (as in brown)
ea (as in tea)
are (as in care)
ew (as in chew)
ear (as in hear)
aw (as in yawn)
oi (as in spoil)
ur (as in nurse)
ire (as in fire)
ure (as in pure)
a–e (as in cake)
i–e (as in smile)
o–e (as in home)
u–e (as in huge)

In this video, concentrating only the fourth sound of Set3 Speed Sounds - ow. When your child starts learning new Set3 Speed Sound every week, please encourage them to do some reading and writing activities through play.
