Before Tom Hanks won two Oscars for his performances in "Philadelphia" and "Forrest Gump" in back-to-back years in the 1990s, he starred in comedies like "Big," "Dragnet" and "The 'Burbs."
Peacock is adapting "The 'Burbs" into a TV show — but it's not a remake of the 1989 movie.
"When I started developing it, I wanted to make sure we had a whole fresh new story, a whole new take, whole new characters, but it was important to me to still honor the original DNA of the movie," said showrunner Celeste Hughey ("Dead to Me," "Palm Royale"). "People love the movie, and so I hope people will watch it and see kind of familiar elements, little Easter eggs that they can catch throughout, so they know it was in good hands and that we love the movie as well."
A young couple (Keke Palmer and Jack Whitehall) moves back to his childhood home in a quiet, suburban town full of nosy neighbors, all with their own secrets.
