Today's drive takes is up the Jaun Pass that is covered in snow, also called «Röstipass», connects the Gruyère region in the Canton of Freiburg with the Bernese Simmental. This once made it important for national defence. In the Second World War, the region was upgraded into artillery fortification and bunkers were disguised as alpine huts. Today, Jaunpass is quiet and tranquil – particularly when you trudge through the glittering landscape with your snowshoes.
