Passing Privilege

Описание: I sometimes like to write poems. I had no idea it was world poetry day today so I put this together. I'm not a practised performer but I hope the words might help someone else out there.

It's a privilege to pass or so they say
To live through a day without a harass
It's a privilege to pass come ever what may
As we put all our effort in presenting with class.

It's my passing privilege to wake up at five
One hour to gym, one hour to hide
We conceal to un-feel the hate for ourselves
Wearing layers of face, like armour of steel.

We work hard to reshape, to re-fate our lives
From the littlest thing, just dressing ourselves right
To tens of thousands spent going under the knife
We didn't want it or chose it, but this is our life.

We'll change our voice as if we've a choice
And sound like fiction so we can rejoice
It's a passing privilege as we feel the strain
There are standards to meet, so hard to obtain.

It's my passing privilege to not know what is right
Whether you'll want me or whether we'll fight
To ever feel wanted is what most humans want
But afraid of disgust it feels hard to flaunt.

It's a privilege to pass or so they say
And try as we might some will take it away
We'll go out as a woman and they'll call us a man
And laugh at the rise when we shout "It's Ma'am!"

Where is the kindness of the common man?
As those keyboard crusaders harass us with spam
There's no reason to hate, they just won't understand
That we never wanted to be born a man.

But all is not lost as you lend me your ears
You'll say it's okay even if you don't understand our fears
You'll see a woman distressed and that's what matters
Like a knight you'll defend those of us they would batter

And it's my privilege to pass or so it feels
To escape the notice of their feral zeal
There are so many others who don't have that privilege
So all we ask is that kindness you'd give.
