Classic propeller-driven aircraft inc propliners of the 1920s - 1970s (140 photos)

Описание: This unique photo collection ft propliners & other prop-powered aircraft numbers 140 in all. The aeroplanes featured date from the 1920s through to the 1970s, and all are original old photos rather than modern-day views of early airplanes.
The photographs are a mix from my own collection, including several WW2-era identification images as issued to aircrew by the Ministry of Aircraft Production, and also a wide variety supplied by long-term contact Dave Trutzenbach. He's a keen aircraft enthusiast and began photographing them at airfields, aerodromes and airports across the UK in the 1950s and has never stopped. Locations for his amazing photos include London Airport (now Heathrow), Biggin Hill, Gatwick, Croydon, Farnborough airshow and more. All Dave's photographs are copyright to him and are not to be re-used anywhere else, thanks, the same goes for me and my images. I've also included a small number of scans featuring contemporary aircraft memorabilia for added variety.
Civilian and military types (RAF and USAF) are mixed in here, together providing an insight into the wide variety of classic aircraft that were likely to be found on a plane-spotting expedition.
While this channel is predominantly about cars, it was aircraft that fascinated me first as a youngster, probably due to living just a few miles away from Ringway airport (now Manchester Airport). We'd have regular forays over there to watch the 1-11s, Tridents, 707s, DC-8s, Caravelles and so on, plus the many propeller-driven aircraft that were also frequent visitors. Alas by the time I began plane-spotting, most of the classic propliners had been replaced by newer jets, although welcome visitors such as the mighty Super Guppy and the Air Atlantique DC-3 Dakotas maintained a link to the days when Stratocruisers and Daks would regularly fly into Ringway.
Specific aircraft featured here include favourites such as the Supermarine Spitfire, Blackburn Beverley, De Havilland Dove, Lockheed Constellation (a personal favourite), DC-6 & DC-3, Avro Lancaster & York, Hawker Hurricane, Fairey Firefly, Vickers Vanguard & Viscount, and many many more, mainly in black & white.
