Composer: Mascheroni; lyrics Mazzoni. - Never heard of any of them and couldn't find any information about them on the internet. Recorded 19th Nov. 1911.
Was this another "act of mercy" from Caruso? I wouldn't be surprised.... - Like this one:
The first Neapolitan song Caruso recorded (in his own dialect) was "Mamma mia, che vo' sapè." He made the song a hit in America. Later, during one of his stays in Naples, Caruso visited Emanuele Nutitile, the impoverished and completely forgotten composer of "Mamma mia" and pressed 5,000 Lire into his hands - quite a considerable sum of money in those days.
Caruso was a bone-hard negotiator when it came to singing contracts and he left a fortune for his heirs. But at the same time he was an incredibly generous man who never forgot his own humble Neapolitan roots or his friends and associates. He used to give Christmas presents to everyone at the MET, regardless of their status. One can hear his generousity in his singing, I think. - He always gives all of his heart.
