The lonely warrior could fend for herself, and needed nobody's protection. If anything, it was other people that needed protection from her. But the thief, who was selfless and kind, disagreed.

An interplanetary sci-fi fairy tale for the ages, no doubt.

This is one of my favourite songs, ever. And I tend to stay away from my favourite songs when editing, because I'm afraid I'll ruin them. But oh well, these two are special too. So I gave it a go.
I hope it's clear there's a time jump backwards. I tried to emphasize the change in Dutch's attitude to John, how she comes to trust and rely on him, and worry about this safety, and being terrified of losing him.
