I still can’t wrap my head around how some roofers are still using tar paper) as underlayment under shingles. This stuff is old-school, low quality, and it tears super easily.
The problem is: during a roof repair or install, it’s almost guaranteed to rip and once your underlayment is compromised, moisture can get where it shouldn’t and that’s how a “new roof” turns into leaks and problems later.
In this short, I show why tar paper fails and why modern synthetic underlayment is a totally different level.
