Over 140 detainees are still sleeping inside two correctional facilities in Port Vila, despite reports indicating that these colonial-era buildings are no longer safe.
Following the earthquake damage, the safety of the detainees and the correctional officers who sleep or work in these facilities is a major concern. As a result, the Vanuatu Correctional Services Department's priority is now to move the detainees to safer locations.
