Originally, this fun little tune was intended for the Thanksgiving season with no connection to Christmas. It was first performed on Washington Street in Boston in 1857. It was not until much later that it became associated with Christmas, which was decades later into the late 1800s. The original title was “One Horse Open Sleigh”.
However, note that this arrangement is not what would have been used back at that time, this one is a little more contemporary, with a little personal flavoring added... :-)
Played on a Berlin reed organ (pump organ), made in Berlin (now Kitchener) Ontario in 1897.
