After sailing into the sunset on the Jim Michalak Robbsboat, and securing a beautiful Phil Bolger Birdwatcher, we took Baby Blues to Bellingham Bay—into Squalicum Harbor for the first time, where we found ourselves docked between a commercial fishing fleet of Alaskan crabbers, pleasure boats, and a deck full of diners. From there we crossed the bay to revisit Lummi Island, where we used to kayak-camp before kids. This time? The same steep hills, shocking tides… and a 5 a.m. wake-up when the tide left us perched bow-up on the sand. Luckily, one perfectly-placed log rolled us free.
