Govt to Mandate EHNs, Warns Panchayats Against Denial

Описание: The Goa government has issued 33,813 Enabling House Numbers (EHNs) for unauthorized houses, 90% of which belong to Goans, to facilitate tax collection and initiate the regularization process. Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho said many such homes, especially in Bardez and Pernem, have begun paying house and garbage tax, and are now eligible to apply for regularization if the structures existed before 2014.

However, 8,000–10,000 homeowners are yet to come forward. “We appeal to people to opt for temporary house numbers,” said Godinho, adding that a circular will be issued mandating all panchayats to grant EHN numbers. He warned of action against sarpanchas and secretaries who defy the directive and urged MLAs not to interfere.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said the government will soon bring in legislation to stop further proliferation of illegal houses.
