"We are coming back to the country where sport was born, and we are coming back to the country that has really revolutionised culture, and is the cradle of western civilisation, and the International Olympic Committee has always wanted to associate sport and culture, and nothing better than philately can express this."

STORYLINE
An exhibition of Olympic stamps and memorabilia was officially opened in Athens on Monday.
IOC President Jacques Rogge joined his predecessor Juan Antonio Samaranch, a keen philatelist, for the inauguration of Olymphilex 2004 at the European and Promotions Centre in central Athens.
Stamps played a vital role in funding the first of the modern Games, also in Athens in 1896.
Admiring some of the stamps on show, John F Krimsky of the IOC Philatelic Federation said: "These are the issues that helped make the Games a reality. By contributing 400,000 Drachma to the organising committee in 1896, it was possible for us to have the Olympic Games."
The first Olymphilex took place at the LA Games in 1984. Since then it has been an increasingly popular part of the Olympic experience.
As well as stamps, the exhibition also boasts a collection of every past Olympic torch and coins and medals dating back over the history of the modern games.
