The Human Face After Four Years of War

Описание: In the first photograph, taken in 1941, we see the young Soviet artist Yevgeny Stepanovich Kobytev on the day he left for the front, shortly after the German invasion of the Soviet Union began. In the second image, taken in 1945, he appears after his return. Both photographs, now preserved in a Russian museum, offer a powerful summary of the human impact of four years of war: in the first, Kobytev looks at us; in the second, he seems to look through us.
