Can you build furniture that gets stronger as it dries? In this video, I’m using Privet—a common invasive species—to create a traditional stick chair. By combining bone-dry stretchers with "green" (wet) legs, the wood actually shrinks to create a permanent, rock-solid grip without a single drop of glue or a metal screw.
The Build Details:
Material: Harvested Privet (Ligustrum)
The Tech: Green-to-dry tension joinery
The Seat: Traditional Jute webbing weave
Tools: Saw, drawknife, spoon mule, 16mm bit and drill, sloyd knife, hammer
If you have Privet or other invasive species growing in your backyard, don't just mulch it! Have you ever tried green woodworking? Let me know in the comments what you would build with "weed" timber.
