According to Genius: The track sees Ryan’s character, Ken, reflecting on his purpose in life about Barbie whilst at war with an army of other Kens. It’s made a constant point in the latter half of the film that masculine identity is primarily built upon what someone has (a nice car, a big house, a hot girlfriend, etc.) as opposed to who someone is. Thus, when these assets are taken away, men feel as though their very identities are being stripped of them.
