REASON #1: THERE’S A CARD FOR YOU NO MATTER WHAT YOU’RE INTO
Chase has a wide variety of credit cards in the following categories:
Builder Credit Cards (including 1 student credit card)
Cash Back Credit Cards
General Travel Credit Cards (i.e. for all types of travel with any airline, hotel, etc.)
Hotel Credit Cards
Airline Credit Cards
Retail or Store Credit Cards
Business Credit Cards
NOTE: Currently, Chase does not offer any secured credit cards for true beginners or those desiring to rebuild credit from low credit scores. If you’re in one of those situations, consider secured credit cards from other issuers.
REASON #2: THE CHASE 5/24 RULE CAN GET IN THE WAY LATER
What the Rule Says: Chase will automatically deny a credit card application if you’ve opened 5 or more cards with any bank in the last 24 months that appear on your credit report.
So…consider getting Chase credit cards earlier in your journey. Although some people may be able to get approved with Chase for their first credit card ever, this isn’t common & likely requires a prior banking relationship to increase the chances of that happening. In general, I suggest having 1+ years of credit history before applying for a Chase card.
REASON #3: BUILD STRONG MULTI-CARD SETUPS (e.g. Chase Trifecta)
Personal Credit Cards (Example 1 - $95 total annual fees)
Chase Freedom Flex
Chase Freedom Unlimited
Chase Sapphire Preferred
Personal Credit Cards (Example 2 - $550 total annual fees)
Chase Freedom Flex
Chase Freedom Unlimited
Chase Sapphire Reserve
Business Credit Cards ($95 total annual fees)
Chase Ink Business Cash
Chase Ink Business Unlimited
Chase Ink Business Preferred
Mixed Personal & Business Credit Cards ($95 total annual fees)
Chase Freedom Unlimited
Chase Ink Business Cash
Chase Sapphire Preferred
REASON #4: COMBINE POINTS TO ACCELERATE YOUR REWARDS
You can combine Chase points across all cards (personal & business) into 1 account balance. This is a huge advantage because different cards earn bonus points in different categories. So, by using the right card for the right purchase, you can earn a lot more points from your regular expenses.
How To Combine Chase Points
1. Log into your online Chase account & navigate to the rewards section (i.e. Ultimate Rewards portal)
2. From the Main Menu, choose Combine Points
3. Choose the card you want to transfer from and the card you want to transfer to
4. Continue through the prompts to complete the transfer
Why This Is A Huge Advantage
Chase cards WITHOUT an annual fee (e.g. Chase Freedom cards) allow you to redeem points at 1.0¢ each for nearly everything, including travel. But, Chase cards WITH annual fees (e.g. Chase Sapphire cards) allow you get 25% - 50% more value when redeeming in select categories, including travel, as well as giving you access to transfer partners.
REASON #5: CHASE HAS THE BEST OVERALL REWARDS PROGRAM IN THE INDUSTRY!
Cash Back (statement credit or deposit to checking / savings account)
1.0¢ per point across all cards
Pay Yourself Back (statement credit in select categories)
1.10¢ per point: No-fee cards
1.25¢ per point: $95 fee cards
1.50¢ per point: $550 fee cards (Chase Sapphire Reserve)
Gift Cards (digital & physical)
1.0¢ per point
1.10¢ per point when on sale
Travel (portal)
1.10¢ per point: No-fee cards
1.25¢ per point: $95 fee cards
1.50¢ per point: $550 fee cards (Chase Sapphire Reserve)
Travel (transfer partners)
Varies widely
