A three-year-old girl was killed in a road crash involving a police car and a Perodua Kelisa on Jalan Ipoh–Lumut near Puncak Jelapang here yesterday.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the incident occurred at 3.35pm and involved a Honda Civic police vehicle and a Kelisa travelling in opposite directions.
He said that initial investigations found that the Kelisa, which was heading from Jelapang towards Lumut, is believed to have suddenly lost control and veered into the opposite lane, colliding with the police car.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
The offence carries a jail term of between five and 10 years and a maximum fine of RM50,000 upon conviction.
