If you have not heard, I’m going to be hanging out in the Zero-Mod booth at the “Guitar and Bass Expo” in Wyomissing, PA on Saturday, August 19th.
I’ll be playing along live to some of my favorite songs (including this one), on some of my favorite, Zero-Mod equipped basses. It’ll be just like my channel - except with the potential for mistakes!
Admission is free and they are running shuttle busses from NYC and Philadelphia to the show and I’m going to be giving out some cool TJH3113 stickers!

We’re off to see Styx, REO Speedwagon, and Donald Felder tonight and that was going to get you an old “Blue Collar Man” cover that I’ve had lying around. However, I decide to save that cover for another time (a band member’s birthday or something like that) and post this instead. Mostly because I wanted to get it out of the way before the guitar show thing as it’s probably the only non-Rush material that I am going to do there.

About a month or so ago Facebook friend, Jennifer Hampton, left this bold comment on my page, “Hey, dude. Just wondering if I could put in a special request? Perhaps a little The Who "The Real Me"? Please? ” The only song that I’ve received more requests for than “The Real Me” is a song about a certain citrus fruit by Led Zeppelin. I let Jennifer down easy with my standard answer to that request, saying “Maybe one of these days. If I remember correctly, it's just a hair sharp or flat of concert pitch. That's why I put it down. I usually work on a couple of songs at a time and hate having to stop and retune between songs. So lazy.” That’s when my old friend, Jim Trice chimed in, saying, “I could help you with that”. Some of you might remember Jim’s name from any videos I’ve done where the music has been pitch corrected or brought up to concert pitch. I usually try and thank him when he does that for me and he's been helping me out with that for some time how. Next thing I knew, there were two copies of the song in my in-box. One was full speed and the other was a slowed-down version. I guess Jim didn’t think I could handle it full speed. Oh, and both were at concert pitch. Now, I had no excuse not to learn the song.

I don’t think it came out too bad. I believe I got all the “money” notes, I just had to skimp a bit on some of the very fast “twiddley-bits”, as The Ox was capable of these incredible bursts of speed that my fingers are just not able to muster. And as an added bonus, I also did a version using the slowed down version of the song that might be of some help to anyone wanting to learn the song for themselves. I’ll post that later on tonight. I think I'll put it in my "Bass Tutorials" playlist.

In case you had not picked up on it, the song is, “The Real Me” by “The Who” off of their Quadrophenia album which came out in 1973 and features the late, great John Entwistle, who I had the pleasure of seeing a couple of times before his death.
