Multinational corporations often pledge commitments to sustainability, human rights, and good governance. However, achieving safe, ethical working environments throughout their supply chains presents challenges and opportunities for stakeholders. While much attention has been given to the environmental aspects of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance), it is equally important to address other critical factors such as bribery, corruption, modern slavery, gender equality, water consumption, biodiversity, and cultural heritage.
This seminar will delve into the ESG practices of Australian mining companies operating abroad, examining the legal requirements under Australian law for reporting and mitigating illegal and unethical behaviors. The discussion will highlight potential areas for law and policy reform and identify avenues for further research.
Join Dr. Evan Hamman as he explores these issues, followed by a discussion led by Dr. Clement Sefa-Nyarko, Lecturer in Security, Development, and Leadership in Africa.
