Marian Demar & Orkiestra Syrena Rekord dir. by Iwo Wesby – Cicho grajcie mi znów [Play Me Softly Again; Original Italian title: Violino Tzigano] Tango (Bixio-Brojdo) Recorded by Syrena-Electro, Poland in 1937. Repressed by White Eagle Records in USA, c. 1949
NOTE: This is a Polish version of the world-famous Italian tango "Violino Tzigano," composed by Cesare A. Bixio - one of the best Italian pop music composers of the radio days. Marian DEMAR (b. 1897 in Kraków - d. 1979 in Kraków, Poland) was a popular Polish tenor, performing in operettas and on the radio, who initially studied at the Vienna Polytechnic, but decided to pursue a singing career in 1926. He sang in Polish opera houses in Poznań, Kraków and Warsaw, and then became popular as a performer of popular arias and hits on radio and on records in the 1930s. During the German occupation, he agreed to perform in public theaters administered by the Nazis, so after World War II he was banned from performing on Warsaw stages and for the rest of his career he appeared only in the musical theaters in Kraków.
This music, so elegantly arranged by one of the finest pre-war Polish dance band leader Iwo Wesby, needs an elegant slideshow by the models from the best Warsaw fashion houses of the 1930s.
