Sri Lanka protests: What’s happening and why?

As fuel queues become commonplace, petrol stations close down, and emergency services struggle to receive fuel - and basic necessities such as food and medicine are unable to be transported - Regional Intelligence Analyst, Jade Patel, explains how the difficulties facing the people of Sri Lanka have caused widespread protesting and political turmoil in the country.

And with the 9th July Colombo protests and storming of the presidential palace ultimately bringing about the ousting of President Rajapaksa, will the situation in Sri Lanka now become calm, or are the country’s problems too deep rooted to be solved so quickly?
