Spray this herbicide within 48 hours of wheat sowing, and not a single weed will grow; Weed control is crucial for higher wheat yields. Currently, two main types of herbicides are available on the market: 'pre-emergence' and 'post-emergence'.

It is best to spray 'pre-emergence' herbicides immediately after sowing, i.e., before weeds emerge. This method prevents weeds from emerging and prevents any 'shock' (yellowing or stunting) of the wheat crop. Conversely, if 'post-emergence' herbicides are used after weeds emerge (usually 20-25 days later), the wheat often turns yellow for a few days and its growth stops. Therefore, if possible, use of 'pre-emergence' herbicides should be preferred.

Recommended Herbicides for Use Immediately After Sowing
Farmers who have recently sown wheat should spray herbicide within 72 hours of sowing. A mixture of two herbicides, Avkira and Bunker, from PI, is recommended. This mixture is very popular in major wheat-growing states like Punjab and Haryana. A unique feature of this mixture is that it works in two stages: it initially prevents weeds from growing, and then becomes active again when the wheat is watered a second time (20 to 25 days later). Therefore, this mixture works to kill weeds that accidentally emerge after the second watering. For a spray per acre, use 60 grams of Avkira and 1 to 1.5 liters of Bunker (in 200 liters of water).

Post-emergence Options and Important Spraying Rules
If your wheat crop is affected by weeds, two effective post-emergence options are available. The first option is UPL's Vesta herbicide, which has a dosage of 160 grams per acre. As a second option, you can use a mixture of FMC's Algrif and Dinof. For this, Algrif should be used at a rate of 8 grams per acre and Dinof at a rate of 160 grams per acre.

It is very important to keep several things in mind when spraying herbicides. Most importantly, it is important to use the exact dosage per acre as directed by the company; increasing or decreasing the dosage can adversely affect results. Additionally, it is important to use at least 150 to 200 liters of water per acre and the soil should be sufficiently moist (evaporation method) during spraying, which helps achieve 100% weed control.
