The Sir Creek dispute is a long-standing territorial and maritime boundary issue between India and Pakistan, concerning a 96-km estuary in the Rann of Kutch, Gujarat. While India claims the boundary lies along the mid-channel of Sir Creek, Pakistan argues it should follow the eastern bank, which would give it a larger share of exclusive economic zone and potential offshore oil and gas reserves.
The dispute has implications for fishermen’s arrests, maritime security, and energy exploration in the Arabian Sea. Despite several rounds of talks, no final settlement has been reached, though the issue periodically comes into focus in India–Pakistan relations and is often linked to broader peace negotiations.
