When I think about the upcoming FX series Alien: Earth, created by Noah Hawley and executive produced by Ridley Scott, I’m struck by how it promises to expand the iconic Alien franchise in unprecedented ways by introducing us not to just one, but to five distinct extraterrestrial species crash-landing on Earth. When I place it in context, the show is set in the year 2120—roughly three decades before the events of the original 1979 film—so it feels like a bold new chapter that brings the terror of the Xenomorph universe directly to our doorstep. From what I understand, the series centers on the deep-space research vessel USCSS Maginot, which crashes in Prodigy City carrying what one character ominously describes as “five different lifeforms from the darkest corners of the universe.” To me, each of these species represents a unique threat, pushing us to reconsider exactly what makes Alien so terrifyingly effective.
