In Oosterwold, residents are required to dedicate at least 50% of their land to food production. Instead of lawns and decorative landscaping, homes are surrounded by gardens, orchards, greenhouses, and urban farms.

This experimental Dutch community flips traditional city planning — putting food production first and housing second.
