A new journey begins in the nostalgic region of Johto. After receiving my starter Pokémon from Professor Elm, I traveled from Cherrygrove City to Route 30 to retrieve the Mystery Egg. The routes have been redesigned, and the towns look fantastic. On my way back, I encountered Silver and battled him, just like in the old days. Upon reaching Violet City, I scaled Sprout Tower, defeated the trainers within, and received HM05 (Flash) from the Elder. I then challenged Gym Leader Falkner and earned my first badge. Afterward, I met a woman who claimed to be the previous owner of the Mystery Egg and asked me to care for it; definitely a new story element! Heading west, I discovered a new Fossil Researcher’s house. After solving a puzzle in the ruins to obtain the Dome Fossil, I returned to the researcher to revive it. Finally, I made my way toward Route 32 and Union Cave.

Built on the Modern Emerald decomp, this project offers a fresh take on the GSC/HGSS experience, blending key aspects of the Gen 2 and Gen 4 games, while incorporating many modern QoL features, as well as some familiar Gen 3 mechanics. Not only is Heart & Soul (HnS) a first-of-its-kind, fully completed, playtested, and largely faithful GSC remake / HGSS demake, it's also completely open source, and is intended to be a base for a new generation of Johto rom hacks.
