It is a bit grey weather wise, but only light winds, so good conditions to put these new smaller motors to the test with a big pack. The AUW is about 2.05kg, nearly 200g saved. I went for a slightly higher kv than before (900 to 1050), which should make up for the loss in torque.
I think the quad is a bit over-tuned for long range cruising, so even though the heavier motors have taken this quad 1km further in the past, I'm pretty sure this setup has about couple of km at least. During straight flight, the instantaneous amp draw goes from 20-30 amps, so I'm pretty sure with the stabilised, flight performance will improve.
I was probably going a bit fast for a true range test too! But this is how I like to fly in the mountains, so it's a fair test for me!

You are still reading 🙌 Here is a little bit out me and my aircraft...
I shoot my videos with various quadcopters depending on the situation. I often fly in places where recovery is not possible, so I custom build my aircraft for the best performance for the given application.
I like 7 inch quads for big air freestyle and diving in the mountains, and 5 inches for freestyle smoothness in the smaller fly spots. The smaller drones are really fun too, especially the tiny ones... its really incredible what you can do with those things 🙌
My 6 and 7 inch quads all run at 8S 33v, so when you look at the dry weight, take into account the higher spec motors... 8S batteries are larger, no less efficient maybe than 6S, but due to having only half the amp draw the flight experience is something hard to describe... and means even more fun with less risk 🔥🔥🔥
My 5 inch 6S Supafly Syncmode is locked in and tuned just the way I like it! It's by far my most flown quad.
The smaller drones are fun for park flying, all under 250g. The lightest one there is only 25g, and it absolutely rips 💪

For most of my flying I use ELRS telemetry (Radiomaster GX12) and DJI O4 (DJI Goggles 3), I have a couple of quads with ELRS telemetry and analogue VTXs, with a ground setup (Fatshark HDO+, True RC antenna, Skyzone VRX monitor). My long range drones have strobes that are visible clearly up to about 3-4 miles depending on weather conditions.
Follow the channel for regular freestyle and fpv related content. Scotland is an absolutely awesome place to be an FPV pilot, I hope to show a different perspective!
