Painting German Armour: The Tiger! [How I Paint Things

Описание: The Tiger was a vehicle practically mythologized in its day. Absurdly powerful and almost impenetrable to most Allied anti-tank weaponry, it would rack up kill ratios the envy of any tank commander. Once early mechanical issues were overcome, the Tiger would rapidly evolve into a top class battle tank, organized into heavy tank battalions which could quite literally change the course of a battle just by their arrival.

Massively broad tracks and interleaved road wheels meant that despite its whopping 57 tonnes at combat weight, its ground pressure was less than that of a Sherman - it was surprisingly agile despite its colossal size. Still, the Tiger needed to have its outer road wheels removed and smaller tracks fitted to roll on to specially designed train cars to be transported to threatened sectors, as it guzzled fuel that was already a desperately rare resource when it was introduced. Expensive to build and maintain, for the cost of one Tiger it would be possible to build four StuG III - there were never enough Tigers to go around, and probably just as well for the Allies...

Ultimately, the Tiger would be a victim of its own success, driving Nazi tank doctrine in the opposite direction to most other nations' easily maintained, reliable, functional medium tanks - the forerunners of today's main battle tank concept. Though the Panther would learn many of the lessons of the Tiger, it fell into many of the same 'bigger is better' traps, and the rest is history.

THE BASE: PVA and sand followed by a dark brown paint. Static grass, then tufts and clump foliage soaked through with PVA to make it dry rock hard.
