Siófok is often called the Capital of Lake Balaton. It is an easy 1,5 hour train ride from Budapest making access to the "Hungarian Sea" very easy. Siófok is a popular Summertime destination for Hungarians thanks to it's 17 km long shore with many beaches. In this video, we'll show you what Summertime is like at lake Balaton and why you should visit this wonderful region!.
If you are looking for a place to chill during the hot summers of Hungary, lake Balaton is probably the best place to visit, and Siófok is one that is super if you want to relax, take your family to the beach or party with your friends.
And although Siófok is often recommended only for its beaches, it has a unique history with many fun facts to learn about. Many Hungarian intellectuals enjoyed the waters here and created their own unique summertime villas here, some famous Hungarian artists were born here as well, and the area was important for Eastern and Western Germans during the time of the iron curtain. Plus the name Siófok also has sort of a funny past. With this video we hope to inspire you to take time and visit this place, and understand the nostalgic feelings it evokes for us Hungarians.
