General Pervez Musharraf, the then president of Pakistan imposed emergency in the winter of 2007.
Liyari, a gangster infested slum and a stronghold of former slain Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, plunged into unrest. Liyari had reacted strongly against the house arrest of Benazir Bhutto in Lahore. Amidst riots, fierce gun battle broke out between the police and what they thought with the armed gangsters. While dodging bullets, I covered the encounter.
