In an unusual move she took the opportunity to address the court herself and to deliver her heart-rending victim impact statement from the witness box - and told Williams, who was jailed for 20 years: 'I wrote this because of what you have done to me and my children'. She said: 'When the children cry for their daddy asking me to bring him back to them, the one wish they want, while sobbing uncontrollably. The one thing I can’t give them. It’s gut wrenching, it’s torture'. Mrs Phillips said that, on the night her husband died, she had held his hand, 'begging' him to live, as doctors fought for 40 minutes to resuscitate him - while Williams was covering his tracks.
