The highlight? The Champagne Pool, a breathtaking thermal pool rimmed with vivid orange and green hues, created by mineral deposits and geothermal heat.
Nearby, the Artist’s Palette surprises you with a dynamic spectrum of colors, shifting subtly with the light. Then there’s the Devil’s Bath, an eerie neon-green acidic pool—a cool surface but too corrosive for dipping even if you wanted to.
The park is alive with features like bubbling mud pools, steaming grounds, and sinter terraces that hint at the fiery energy deep beneath the surface. You’ll traverse well-defined walks that vary from quick 30-minute circuits to immersive 75-minute treks, offering different volcanic panoramas at every turn.
An unforgettable highlight is the Lady Knox Geyser, which erupts daily around 10:15 AM, shooting water up to 20 metres high. It’s induced to erupt using a surfactant—a method that has created a striking silica-encrusted cone over time.
Set along boardwalks and paths through native bush, the park guides you around fascinating geological features—from craters to terraces and neon-tinted pools. The visitor center provides useful facilities including a café, picnic areas, restrooms (disability-friendly), and a gift shop.
