Over the years, the annual Kailua Men's Night Doubles has hosted their fair share of talented doubles teams. Past champions from Minh Le & Wei-Yu Su to today's contenders like Marcel Chan & Spencer Travilino. Even former pro tennis players have entered this event from time to time!

In 2013, pro tennis players (& now Hawaii tennis stars), Dennis Lajola & Michael Yani, would become maybe the strongest top seeded doubles team to ever enter the Kailua Night Doubles! They were fresh off the pro circuit & looking to grab a memorable Night Doubles title! Just seeing their names together in the draw created a buzz surrounding the tournament I still remember very well to this day: Pure excitement! However, this would only hype up challengers like Ikaika Jobe & Thomas Shubert, also repping Kailua Night Doubles achievements of their own. Ikaika & Thomas entered in 2013 as the 3rd seeded team (could have been the top seeded team any other year) with upset on their minds as they defeated quality team after quality team in the opening rounds of the main draw. They would eventually earn a birth against top seeds Dennis & Michael in the semi final round. Any other year at the Kailua Night Doubles, one of these teams would end up being in the finals or winning the event. In 2013, these two high quality doubles teams would meet each other the round before the championship match!
