The world is inundated each day with horrific images of civilian casualties in conflict-torn areas. The suffering they are going through and the often-intentional violence against them underscores the urgency of making protection of civilians an issue of global concern. Solutions are needed urgently to mitigate the harm inflicted to civilians and create a more effective global framework for their protection. This session gathering key humanitarian actors will discuss the current realities of civilians in area of conflict, identify the gaps in the protection framework and review innovative and effective citizens’ centered interventions, and make recommendations on actionable ideas going forward to improve cooperation mechanisms.
